The Henry Ford

Morty took us to the Henry Ford Museum on Saturday. This was the second time there in 49 years for Jim. The only things remembered from the first trip were the big trains, and the camping vehicles -- oh, and the breaking away moment of that first trip without family. How's that for fading memories. Maybe this time the pictures will help the memories more.



One of the more evocative displays was the street car -- "Rappy" -- like the one I rode with my mom from Shaker to Downtown Cleveland. Usually they ran a more modern version, but during rush hour the older models were used. One time separation anxiety set in when I exited on the way home and Mom was blocked by standing passengers. She rang the bell on the cord frantically to get the driver to stop again.

After a brief visit with our friend, we drove a little over an hour to Lakeside, OH and East Harbor State Park. We did little after that, except for a little wine and cheese followed by a bite of dinner.

Shelburne Museum

Tthe Museum had more workers, than paying customers today, when it is open into the evening. The same paucity of customers yesterday afternoon. Makes for some very personalized attention.

Tomorrow we're headed north again to Grand Isle in the middle of Lake Chanplain.

Shelburne Museum

Spent the entire day finishing up the sights at the Shelburne Museum.

My Oh My! This product of Electra Havermeyer Webb is something to behold. She, the daughter of a sugar trust baron, married into the Vanderbilt fortune, and the rest is still here to see, and then some. "Remarkable" doesn't do it justice.

The Monets and Degases were super.

For Barbara, the quilts are wonderful, and mostly included in the pics, but the ladies who know say that the Dear Jane quilt is in theBennington, VT Museum -- much closer to you, but may still be a stop for us.

We most enjoyed the blacksmith, who taught us way more about the craft than we ever thought we wanted to know. I held a hook for him while he used a punch to make a hole in it. And Lynne cooled it off in the soak tub. He gave it to us as a souvenir.

Shelburne, VT

Morty went more North than West. We ended up in Shelburne South of Burlington on the shore of Lake Champlain.

The biggie here is the museum (thanks Steve). We were only there for two hours before closing, but the pictures are pretty powerful.

We will stay here tomorrow, and finish up at the museum.

Swam in a small pool this evening, which also was heated yesterday morning.

Strawberry Banke, Portsmouth, NH

Today we went to the village Strawbery Banke, which recreates historical Portsmouth at various periods. Wow, it is outstanding. The re-enactors are just the best. Not to be missed if you get the chance. Have a look at the pics.

Morty's RV Journey Begins

Just wanted to let you know that we're having a great time visiting Lynne's sister in Maryland. Made a few trips to DC and Dulles Airport to see some of the Smithsonian. The pictures are available at the picasa web site:







Knock on wood, Mortimer the motorhome is goin' great. Just need to get used to a thirsty 9.5 mpg fully loaded.

Headed out tomorrow, Sunday for Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
